The Seaside Company, built on the San Lorenzo River and its wetlands, is problematic for the natural world. Basements with amusement park infrastructure flood every year as the natural cycle of the river creates a lagoon, in which fish and birds and other crustaceans and riparian species flourish. The Seaside Company, sitting on top of the river's wetlands requests "emergency" breaching of the lagoon. Yes, they go through proper channels. We need a better way forward. Perhaps it is time for the Seaside Company to pull back from the floodplain and let nature breath for a change.

Someone tried to breach the SLR lagoon. Thanks to Jane Mio for these photos to document the attempt.

A report and photos by Barbara Childs:
"I just got back from the mouth of the river. They had a bulldozer and two tractors there. I watched as they were netting the pool formed by a former meander. No fish? They must have decided to go forward with the meander approach rather than opening it directly - since when I left about 10:30 the bulldozer was busily digging a trench out from the end of the meander towards the ocean. By now it may be a done deal."
