City calls for San Lorenzo River Advisory Group

March 7, 2015

On March 10, at its 2:30 pm session, the Santa Cruz City Council will be considering a motion "to form an Advisory Group to explore development of a pilot paddling program on the Lower San Lorenzo River."

This is a critical meeting for those concerned with the welfare of wildlife on the San Lorenzo River. Even though the formation of an Advisory Group is not controversial or harmful to wildlife, showing up is still important this time! We'll want to identify ourselves as caring deeply about birds and their watery habitat, as we support the formation of this Advisory Group. The Council will surely note if there are more paddlers than birders at their meeting. The Sentinel is sure to be covering this meeting - and this topic - and birds should get as much print as paddlers!

The agenda item is now scheduled to come after the Consent Agenda and another Zoning amendment hearing, so arrival no later than 3:00 pm is recommended. The staff report on the Advisory Group is available by

If you cannot attend this day time meeting, please send an email to the City Council (citycouncil@cityofsantacruz.com) no later than Sunday, to be noted by Council members and included in the record.  It is okay to speak out for the birds in these emails!
