SAN LORENZO RIVER MYstERIES
March 6, 2015
FoSLRW supporters Jane Mio and Barbara Riverwoman have created an online blog to share their experience of the San Lorenzo River.
Here is how Jane and Barbara describe San Lorenzo River Mysteries, Conversations with the River, the Birds, the Trees, the People:
"It is based on our ever deepening appreciation of the hidden and obvious treasures of the river. The endless wonders never cease to amaze us.
"Our levee walks together have been filled with delightful glimpses of natural beauty, discussions about river management policies, questions about wildlife behavior, interactions with the humans who work, play or live on the River, and lots of humor.
"Because we feel so much love for this river, we decided to invite you to join us in our explorations of its mysteries. We hope you will add comments to our pieces, and perhaps even consider writing longer pieces of your own that we can publish."

September 13 CWC paddle event Cancelled!
September, 2014
With constant pressure applied by Friends of San Lorenzo River Wildlife, the Coastal Watershed Council (CWC) canceled its last planned paddling event, "in part due to concern for wildlife and general conditions in the river."
The CWC held seven paddle events on the San Lorenzo River since October, 2013. Each paddle event resulted in disruption and harassment of birds, including injuries and/or deaths at the February and August events. (See Paddle Event Bird Observations) After the August 9 death of a reclusive juvenile Green Heron, we began an intense campaign to get the September event cancelled.
Our campaign worked! A big thank you and congratulations goes out to all Friends of San Lorenzo River Wildlife for your hard work and dedication in stopping this activity that has clearly demonstrated its negative impacts on birds that call the San Lorenzo home. The birds can rest easier this coming month.
Though we can celebrate this brief victory, this is not the end of the threat to riverine birds. There is still much more work to be done to convince the City to do a rigorous environmental analysis before making any decision regarding potential changes to their policy on paddling on the San Lorenzo River. Friends of San Lorenzo River Wildlife will keep you informed of any developments. We'll contact you when it's time for further action and let you know how you can help.
If there are others you think might like to receive occasional updates or to be involved in protection of river birds or other wildlife, have them use the Contact Form on our web site.
